Prostate Cancer

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Prostate cancer is a disease in which cancer develops in the prostate, a gland in the male reproductive system. It occurs when cells of the prostate mutate and begin to multiply out of control.

These cells may spread (metastasize) from the prostate to other parts of the body, especially the bones and lymph nodes. Prostate cancer may cause pain, difficulty in urinating, problems during sexual intercourse, erectile dysfunction and other symptoms.

However those symptoms are present only in an advanced stage of the disease. Prostate cancer is especially common in older men: A third of men over 50 have microscopic signs of prostate cancer, and at 75 more than half of men will have some cancerous cells in their prostate.

Testicular Cancer

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

Testicular Cancer is veru dangerous disease. It could be happen on Male or Men. Testicular Cancer is a disease in which cells become malignant (cancerous) in one or both testicles. The testicles (also called testes or gonads) are a pair of male sex glands. They produce and store sperm and are the main source of testosterone (male hormones) in men. These hormones control the development of the reproductive organs and other male physical characteristics.

Many doctors are still in the dark on what causes testicular cancer. Like most other cancers, there appear to be many factors at play and not a single one. However, we do have some clues and knowing these can help to reduce cases of testicular cancer in future. (more…)

Preventing Action for Lung Cancer

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Lung Cancer is dangerous disease. Lately however, the number of women affected with lung cancer is steadily catching up with the number of men affected with the disease. By avoiding certain risk factors for lung cancer, we can reduce our chances of developing it. This is the first step in lung cancer prevention.

1) Quit smoking -Smoking is the number one risk factor for lung cancer. It is estimated that 87% of lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking. As soon as you quit, your body reaps the benefits of being tobacco free. Quitting smoking is the BEST defense against lung cancer.

Lung Cancer

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Lung cancer is a disease of uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung. This growth may lead to metastasis, which is invasion of adjacent tissue and infiltration beyond the lungs. The vast majority of primary lung cancers are carcinomas of the lung, derived from epithelial cells.

Lung cancer, the most common cause of cancer-related death in men and the second most common in women (after breast cancer), is responsible for 1.3 million deaths worldwide annually. The most common symptoms are shortness of breath, coughing (including coughing up blood), and weight loss.

Skin Cancer

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Skin cancer is actually the most common of all human cancers in Western countries like the United States. It is not as common here as breast or lung cancer because although we are exposed to the sun, we have plenty of pigmentation in our skin compared to Caucasians to protect us.

This does not however mean we won’t get skin cancer, just that our incidence compared to other cancers is not as high.

There 3 Factor are causing of Skin Cancer :

1) Sunburn and Sunlight – Very simply, sunburn and UV light can damage your skin, and this damage can lead to skin cancer

2) Heredity – If there is a history of skin cancer in your family, you are probably at a higher risk. People with fair skin, with a northern European heritage appear to be most susceptible.

3) Environment – The level of UV light today is higher than it was 50 or 100 years ago. This is due to a reduction of ozone in the earth’s atmosphere (the Ozone Hole). Ozone serves as a filter to screen out and reduce the amount of UV light that we are exposed to.

Breast Cancer

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Breast cancer is refers to a malignant tumor that has developed from cells in the breast. Usually breast cancer either begins in the cells of the lobules, which are the milk-producing glands, or the ducts, thepassages that drain milk from the lobules to the nipple. Less commonly, breast cancer can begin in the stromal tissues, which include the fatty and fibrous connective tissues of the breast.

Breast cancer is always caused by a genetic abnormality (a “mistake” in the genetic material). However, only 5-10% of cancers are due to an abnormality inherited from your mother or father. About 90% of breast cancers are due to genetic abnormalities that happen as a result of the aging process and the “wear and tear” of life in general.

Risk factors you can control

Weight. Being overweight is associated with increased risk of breast cancer, especially for women after menopause. Fat tissue is the body’s main source of estrogen after menopause, when the ovaries stop producing the hormone. Having more fat tissue means having higher estrogen levels, which can increase breast cancer risk.

Diet. Diet is a suspected risk factor for many types of cancer, including breast cancer, but studies have yet to show for sure which types of foods increase risk. It’s a good idea to restrict sources of red meat and other animal fats (including dairy fat in cheese, milk, and ice cream), because they may contain hormones, other growth factors, antibiotics, and pesticides. Some researchers believe that eating too much cholesterol and other fats are risk factors for cancer, and studies show that eating a lot of red and/or processed meats is associated with a higher risk of breast cancer. A low-fat diet rich in fruits and vegetables is generally recommended.
